One of our favourite blogs, Ghetto Bassquake , posted this mixtape by our homeboy João Brasil today and of course we had to feature it too.
Here´s what Vamanos @ GhettoBassquake wrote.
“6 months ago I was talking with London’s resident Brazilian MPC demon, João Brasil at Secousse about technobrega and pressed him about who the best producers are that aren’t horrendously cheesy. He played so many great jams in his set that night so I asked João to make us a mix especially for Ghetto Bassquake of the Brazilian Amazon’s favourite rave sound. I was surprised when he’d made it solely comprised of tracks produced by one DJ who is killing it in the Technobrega scene. You know when someone makes a mix of entirely one artist that there is a confidence and conviction that its gonna be good and João hasn’t let us down. He tells me DJ Waldo Squash is from a little town in Pará, originally born in Muaná but was raised in Ananindeua, Brazil. He started DJing and producing very early before working as radio producer and announcer in small local radio stations in Pará. After breaking into the Technobrega scene, he became a member of the “Gang do Eletro” group, producing for the singer Maderito (of Maderito & Joe). Even though “Tecnobrega” is the most popular term, DJ Waldo Squash considers his style Eletro-Melody (A mix of Eletro and Techno-melody). So crack a beer, throw up your aparelhagem sets and enjoy.”
