Boy, are we proud of this release! Bert on Beats, a.k.a. DJ Critical releases his debut album on Man Recordings today – exclusively on June Download one week ahead of its actual release date!

The Tallinn, Estonia based DJ fuses the rich legacy of UK bass science with the beat alchemy of Angolan Kuduro and other „New World“ genres , establishing a trans-national, hyper-hybrid sound that directs towards the future. After his first two singles „Suomo“ and „Alemão“ on Man Recordings he now presents „Antenna Of Tallinn“, his debut album.

In his hometown Tallinn, Estonia, Bert Prikenfeld has been a household name since the mid 1990s. Starting his career as DJ Critical, Bert soon became Estonia´s Nr.1 Hip Hop DJ, playing various club shows every week, and starting to produce his own cuts. Bert soon moved to Drum n´Bass and released his first album in 1999 which was critically acclaimed in Estonia and Finland.

Throughout the 00s, DJ Critical forged his sound engineering skills in productions for various Finnish and Estonian music projects and proceeded musically to early Dubstep and Baltimore club, the Rio Baile Funk compilations, and the releases of Berlin DJ and Man Recordings head; Daniel Haaksman. When Haaksman initiated a remix contest for his track „Kid Conga“ in 2009, Bert provided a remix under his new moniker Bert On Beats. Haaksman immediately recognised the production quality of Bert´s remix contest contribution and it became the winning remix. Soon Haaksman asked for more tracks by Bert On Beats and he was impressed by the fresh approach that Bert showed in fusing Dubstep basslines with the in-your-face aesthetic of Jump Up Drum n´Bass and the wave of new, „ghetto“ genres like Kuduro, Baile Funk or Soca.

BERT ON BEATS

Soon Bert On Beats was officially signed to Man Recordings and with „Suomo“ and „Alemão“ he released two EPs which created a strong buzz worldwide. For „Suomo“ Bert On Beats collaborated with the Ghanaian singer and MC Anbuley. For „Alemão“ he worked with São Paulo based Baile Funk MC Gi – two tracks that illustrate the trans-globe music approach from Bert On Beats. In between his single releases, remixes followed for Buraka Som Sistema, Ku Bo, Gotan Project (another remix contest won) and Sekta. His tracks currently get support from world class DJs such as Diplo, Sinden, Skream, Feadz, Buraka Som Sistema, Foamo and Douster to name but a few.

The release of „Antenna Of Tallinn“ will quite likely propel Bert On Beats profile into new global realms. Call it a new-bass-masterpiece: The album contains thirteen tracks that range from bogle bouncing tunes like „Zonin“ to the Kurudo beat inspired „Girl Ninja“ and all the way to the Dubstep slammer; „Bone Dat“. Many genre´s are touched, all are grounded by Bert´s skillfull usage of bass. There´s two more collaborations with Ghanaian MC Anbuley in „Kelewele“ and „Shika“, which bring together African lyrics with 21st century sound manufacturing. „Amon Ra“ and „Subkiss“ re-engineer the rootsical JA legacy with sci-fi-low-end wisdom. And with „Chega Mais“ feat. MC Gi, Bert On Beats even shows that he has the skills to create pop and radio compatible tunes too.

Now catch the signals from the Antenna Of Tallinn!!

Unbenannt

After the great success of his Man Recordings debut release “Suomo” EP (Man 048) feat. Anbuley, Estonia´s new talent Bert On Beats returns with another track that marks him as the don of the bass-in-yo-face approach to tricky Tropical Dubstep. With an energy that is tough to find executed quite so well anywhere else, Bert On Beats is rocking it right now.

This newest release, “Alemão”, sees Bert On Beats team up with São Paulo based MC Gi – one of the hottest new vocal talents to emerge from Brasil – bringing some raw and attitude filled vocals to the mix. MC Gi has already collaborated with South Rakkas Crew, Edu K, Chernobyl and others and has become known for witty, powerful lyrics that show that this 19 year old has big balls! “Alemão” is about the seductive power of the well known German sausage!
Alemão(1)

Remixes for „Alemão“ come from a high profile list: Munich´s hypemeisters Schlachthofbronx, Roulet of Enchufada fame, brand new Paris über-talent Bambounou, Beat Laden from Batida, and Estonia´s very own S.I.N.

B-Side “Subkiss” is a hugely different character; a bass heavy instrumental dub number.

Bert On Beats is a name you should get used to hearing! Expect his debut album „Antenna Of Tallinn“ drop soon on Man Recordings!

MAN 048 BERT ON BEATS “SUOMO” FEAT. ANBULEY

bertonbeatssuomo

Bert On Beats has been spinning records and producing for years in his hometown Tallinn, Estonia, under the name DJ Critical, mixing up everything from rap to drum n´bass, ripping clubs apart wherever he drops. When Bert sent in his contribution for the “Kid Conga” remix contest in 2009, Man Rec boss Daniel Haaksman picked the Bert On Beats kuduro and dubstep influenced remix as the winner. Super engineered beats, crisp basslines and a great ear for melody and rhythm made soon clear: Bert On Beats is no rookie. Ever since, Bert has remixed Buraka Som Sistema, Ku Bo and Sekta and now presents his debut artist release: The “Suomo” EP.

“Suomo” features Anbuley on the mike, the Ghana bred and Vienna raised MC with model looks, which debuted as MC on Stereotyp´s Ku Bo project, their collaboration “Lefe” was licensed by Crookers for their legendary “I Love Techno” mix CD. “Suomo” is a love song in the language GA, which is spoken in the capitol of Ghana, where Anbuley was born and raised
until she moved to Vienna. Add the mad beats of Bert On Beats on top and you have a 21st Afro-Tec smasher that is in no way traditionalist but only looks into one direction: The future.

Remixes are provided by Ku Bo, Lazy Ants and Daniel Haaksman, plus a reggae version by Bert On Beats himself. Bonus track “Morjim Harley”, a heavy bass rocker is a teaser to the upcoming Bert On Beats album on Man Recordings, out in autumn 2010.
