F*CK J-LO & PITBULL! THE TRUE STORY OF LAMBADA
Monday, April 18th, 2011
J-Lo´s horrible version of “Lambada” (”On The Floor” feat. Pitbull) currently tops Germany´s pop charts and brings back the memories of 1989, when “Lambada” was #1 all across Europe. Wayne & Wax just did an amazing Lambada only mixtape called “Moments In Lambada” (following the Nguzunguzu mixtape of “Moments In Love”) which includes some of the dozens versions that were made of “Lambada” since its release.
“Les Dessous De Lambada”, a French documentary from 2001, shows the real story behind the world hit. This originally Bolivian tune, rearranged in Paris and marketed as a Brazilian song, had a skyrocketing commercial success. Launched through advertising spots for the French “Music Festival ” in June 1989 it went to conquer Europe and racked up four million sellers in just a few months. What was the origin of this musical UFO? The international version was signed by Chico de Oliveira but in reality it was a Bolivian song written by the Hermosa brothers eight years before it peaked in Europe. The film analyses the ruthless marketing strategy used by the most powerful partners of music industry, show business and French media to make and promote this hit and on the other hand, reconstruct the Lambada affair, the chronicle of this international judicial affair of the most famous plagiarism in the story of popular music.
