#9 in the globe trotting Funk Mundial series on Man Recordings brings Rio Baile Funk MCing to Paris. Yes, for our ninth installment it’s time for a temporary alignment with the new French sound, embodied by Feadz, courtesy of Ed Banger records. Feadz, a.k.a. Fabien Pienta is the mastermind and producer behind the internet hype sensation Uffie, for whom Feadz created club-anthems like „Pop The Glock“, „Ready To Uff“ or „Hot Chick“. Feadz is also a prolific solo-artist who has released on top labels Ed Banger and Ellen Alien’s Bpitch Records amongst others, famous for his twisted take on electro funk, techno and various booty beats.

For his Funk Mundial contribution, Feadz officially declares his love for the mad beats from Rio De Janeiro, Brazil in the track „Subiu, Desceu“ feat. MC Wesley. Aged eight, MC Wesley is the youngest MC to ever release on Man Recordings. In classic French pop tradition, Feadz paired MC Wesley’s rants on the Europeans sitting up and the Brazilians sitting down with a classic Mozart melody, which brings the best of old Europe together with the booty shakin beats from Brazil’s sugarloaf city – all in a banging baile funk fashion.

Feadz – one of Europe’s hottest producers, teaming up with 8 year old MC Wesley from Rio. A legendary match – exclusively on Berlin’s Man Recordings.

MAN REC KICKING IT IN 2009

Tuesday, January 13th, 2009
man-rec-kicking-it-in-2009

I´m back from Asia. Shock freezed in cold ass Berlin, but glad to be back in the office and kick off the fourth year of Man Recordings which promises to be full of great releases and events. Spring 2009 will see Funk Mundial releases by the ZZK all stars from Buenos Aires: Funk Mundial #8, feat. El Remolón, Chancha Via Circuito, Douster and Frikstailers, the first ever Cumbia-Baile release. Funk Mundial #9 will follow shortly after, prouding us with a contribution by our favourite Ed Banger Feadz from Paris. His release is a collab with 8 year old Rio based MC Wesley  – released as limited edition 7″ vinyl.

Despite various vinyl distributors folding in the 4th quarter of 2008, making us loose money and stock, and the all over world economy looking up to grim months to come, we´ll still keep up to the vinyl format. A look at the photo ensemble which we recently shot of our releases should say it all: MP3 my ass, vinyl is here to stay.

MAN 032 FUNK MUNDIAL #7 JESSE ROSE / OLIVER $

FUNK-MUNDIAL-MAN032-15cm []

ARTISTS: JESSE ROSE, OLIVER $, DEIZE TIGRONA
TITLE: FUNK MUNDIAL #7
CAT NR: MAN 032
DIGITAL RELEASE: SEPTEMBER 12TH, 2008
VINYL RELEASE: SEPTEMBER 19TH, 2008

For the seventh installment of the Funk Mundial series, Man Recordings is happy to present a volume that was entirely recorded and produced in Berlin – the hometown and base of Man Recordings. Jesse Rose resides in Berlin since 2006, producing music and running his label “Made To Play” from the German capitol, where he is DJing at his residency at “Berghain” club. Oliver $ is a native Berliner. Both Jesse and Oliver release on the „Made To Play“ label, so we are happy to present this Berlin coop release: „Made To Play Guest Starring On Man Recordings“.

Jesse-Rose

The London born, New-Berliner Jesse Rose is currently in high demand. Both as solo artist and together with his mates Dave “Switch” Taylor and Trevor Loveys Jesse Rose is responsible for the major kick in the ass that made UK house music fresh again. With tunes like “Tell Me Now” on Frontroom Recordings, the “Let’s Start Again” EP on Dubsided or his anthemic “You’re All Over My Head” this producer and DJ extraordinaire re-defined house music as we know it – and love it. His musical open mindedness made him a top candidate in the Funk Mundial series since its inception, so we are very proud to present Jesse Rose’s first Man Recordings release.

For his Funk Mundial contribution, Jesse Rose teamed up with the major female voice in baile funk, Deize Tigrona. Already a collaboration-choice for producers like Diplo or Buraka Som Sistema, the female MC queen from Rio De Janeiro is famous for her vocal and stylistic versatility and was a first pick for Jesse on his take on the Brazilian music revolution called baile funk. When stopping by in Berlin on her summer European tour 2008 she recorded “Toca Pra Mim” („Play It For Me“) exclusively for Jesse. With his Funk Munidal production Jesse Rose surprises with a highly percussive, mid tempo track that is cool in atmosphere and heavy in bass. Far from the over exposed, chlicheed fidget-formula which dominates UK club land in 2008, Jesse returns to his roots and presents a highly seductive, deep floor filler which celebrates the percussion culture of Brazil en pair with one of Brazil’s hottest voices.

The flipside sees the hot and upcoming homegrown Berlin talent Oliver $. The red haired studio crack is one of the few Berlin musical exceptions to the minimal reign of the German metropolis – he’s quiet possibly is the only German fidget house producer that can be taken seriously. His productions on Berlin’s Grand Petrol Recordings caught the attention of Jesse Rose and soon established a artistic relationship between the two, followed by Oliver $ assistant engineering some of Jesse Rose’s most famous remixes, such as Underworld’s „Keep It Simple”. On Mr. Dollar’s take on baile funk, the twentysomething producer demonstrates the muscular, booty shaking edge of his sound – it’s bouncing without the bling, it’s heavy on bass without a bassline and most of all it’s jacking, like
there’s no tomorrow.

feat. MOLEQUE BIL, MC GUS
TITLE: FUNK MUNDIAL #6 MAIS ELA / VAI SENTAR
CAT. NR.: MAN 026
DIGITAL RELEASE: APRIL 4th, 2008
VINYL RELEASE: APRIL 18th, 2008

Volume #6 in the high calibred Funk Mundial series, who has brought us tracks by Stereotyp, Count+Sinden, Crookers, Seiji and Makossa Megablast, presents Baltimore’s finest. Yes, we are talking about Baltimore Club here, the irresistible breakbeat-based party music from the former industrial city next to Philly and DC. A city which bred a pragmatic in your face block party sound that brings together the best of both hip hop and house music.

SCOTTIE B & KING TUTT

For the first time, Baltimore meets up with Rio De Janeiro in Funk Mundials Vol #6 and the city collab surely brought some delicious dancefloor fruits for every DJ. For the newest volume in the series, Man Recordings teamed up with the top cats from Baltimore’s Unruly Records to create three irresistible Baile Funk-Baltimore hybrids.

Scottie B, undisputed crownholder of the Baltimore Club sound – who recently remixed The Rapture, Justice, Edu K and M.I.A. amongst others – pairs up with Rio based MC Moleque Bil, who is a steady member of the infamous Bonde Do Sonho, a fierce baile funk crew regularly block rocking favelas in the North Zone of Rio De Janeiro. In „Mais Ela“ Bil sings about a party loving girl who gives her bootie away to anyone that makes her dance right. In his trademark fashion, Scottie B twists the voice of Bil into a mad staccato and brings in the right beats. King Tutt, another Bmore legend, put Moleque Bil´s vocals unto a more straight beat, which equally causes dancefloor mayhem.

The flipside of the release sees upcoming Baltimore talent Say Wut, who teamed up with the gifted young MC GUS, who hails from Laranjeras in Rio De Janeiro, and is a steady collaborator of MC Gringo. For “Vai Sentari”, Say Wut stepped up the common Bmore flavour into a funky break beat monster, that shines with MC Gus’ beatboxing and an irresistible bassline.
