MAN 099 FEADZ + DANIEL HAAKSMAN "CAPRI FRUIT" EP

Mn 099

We at Man Recordings have always been huge fans of the freestyle music approach of Paris DJ and producer extraordinaire Feadz (of Edbanger fame). Back in 2009, Feadz made a contribution to the now legendary Funk Mundial series on Man Recordings with his take on the Mozart side of baile funk, “Subiu Desceu” ft. MC Wes.

Now Feadz returns on our label with a juicy and sweet collaboration with our boss Daniel Haaksman. This European mixture of various pan-african influences comes on point for the summer. Imagine Coupé Décalé channeled through the mixing desk and synthesizer collection of Feadz and the beat making of Haaksman and voilá: Here´s “Capri Fruit”, a club-ready, 707 swinging summer carnival anthem. As an extra special bonbon, DJ Chap Teklife put “Capri Fruit” on a manic footwork tip. The closing track is the high-speed “E#otic Rain”.

Werk it, sweat it, juice it and open up the Capri Fruit and say ahh!

MAN 068 WILDLIFE! PASTICHE EP

Wildlife! EP

WILDLIFE! who first gained public attention for his unanimously praised productions for Jamaican bad gal Terry Lynn, and then continued making waves with global bass bubblers “Jumbie”, “Metazoa” and his dancehall-soaked “Buckup EP”, readies his first outing for Man Recordings.

The Swiss badboy teams up with Buraka Som Sistema’s J-Wow, with Toddla T and with Mr. Daniel Haaksman himself to deliver a bass fueled 4-tracker, respectfully paying hommage to a variety of genres they’re drawing inspiration and influence from.

On “DNO” WILDLIFE! & J-Wow deliver slowed down kuduroesque rhythm patterns paired with heavy sub-bass action , while the Toddla T collabo “Hear Dat” swings between grimey dancehall and post-apocalyptic soca madness. On “Paragon” WILDLIFE! and Haaksman take things up to 150 bpm, clashing a Juke/Footwork influenced percussion section with chopped-up vocal bits and genre-defying electronica weirdness. WILDLIFE! rounds things up, with dub influenced half-time smasher “Clappaz”.

This is the End

This is the End

This has certainly been the year that the Chicago Juke/Footwork sound has come to the fore, I’m not a huge fan, but being over forty I firmly believe it is not aimed at people like myself, in fact I think its primary intent is too annoy the hell out of anyone over 25. The pure repetition of Juke does lend it a minimalist charm and it does have functionality, as all the videos on youtube demonstrate. However, this is a great piece of Juke appropriation by Traxman, using that hoary old monster “The End”by the doors.  (via davequam.wordpress.com)
