MPC Maestro DJ Edgar was just voted “The world´s best Baile Funk DJ” by the Japanese edition of Rolling Stone. Unfortunately we can´t read Japanese, but it´s probable that Edgar´s talent to wreck absolutely any dancefloor with his Mozartian way working his MPC are a the center of the author´s enthusiasm. Europe, be prepared, Edgar will be back in summer for various club gigs and special Man Recordings stages on some festivals. Watch this space for more news.

Baile funk in Rio has faded artistically lately – too much Tamborzinho beats and lack of ideas have caused a big musical crisis underneath the sugar loaf mountain. Even MC Gringo lately wrote in an email “baile funk is dead”. Adding to a musical crisis is an increased political pressure on baile funk culture ensulting in the closing down of many bailes across the city of Rio – an early taste of the increased city cleansing and seperation politics by the new conservative major of Rio looking at the Olympics in 2016.
But thank god, funk continues to live outside of Rio, as in this case, one of the sureshot party smashers of 2009: DJ Edgars mashup of Crookers´”Para De Graçinha” + “Soca Ali Baba” with Os Hawaianos´”Vem Kikando”. Call it a baile clash deluxe!

Yeahh! We smashed it last Saturday @ KVS in Brussels at the Funk Mundial release party, the Belgian edition. DJ Edgar, Joyce Muniz and myself played the big room of the municipal theater and ripped it all apart. See DJ Edgar rocking down the house (photos will follow soon).
