2010 has been a great year for Man Recordings. With new signings Schlachthofbronx, Isa GT, Beware+Motorpitch and Bert On Beats we re-positioned Man Recordings to a more globalised sound, leaving Brasil as main inspiration and opening up to more Euro club music, African beats, Spanish language and trans-world-bass-sciene. The “Valeu” compilation celebrated our 50th release and our 5 year anniversary. A string of accompanying “Valeu” parties across Europe showed that what has become the genre called Global Bass has grown into a dynamic international network of DJs, artists, clubs and blogs that cooperate in various forms.

The stream of fresh tracks and new genres popping up from all over the globe rose to new levels, the easy winners for 2010 being new kids on the block 3Ball from Monterrey and Moombathon which spawned adaptors around the world. Besides, Das Racist, Flying Lotus, Gaslampkiller and Gonjasufi put back bling-free US rap on the map, while the his and lows of deep house were re-born from the ashes of UK garage and broken beat on the – overrated – Night Slugs label, at the same time UK Funky seemed to have vanished as a genre as quickly as it has rosen the year before. With French Fries, Bambounou and Canblaster, Paris became a more important gravitation center with a hot crew of teenage-producer-talent. And last but not least, a compilation on an UK electronica label made Chicago Juke the biggest hype in print-media, three years after the gernes creative peak, another display of the slowmotion reception of internet accelerated, hyper-dynamic local micro-sound-styles in traditional media channels (run by “old” people).

2010 brought tons of amazing tracks across all genres, but as the year is coming to an end, we asked our artists to provide their favourites. Here’s some of our favourite tunes in 2010.

-Stage hijack: hijacking Robin S at a live gig in Miami.
-Obsession of the year: Leoncie. From the moment I saw her video ‘Man Let’s Have Fun’ til I managed to get her to play Girlcore and Incest.
-Most shocking performance of the year: Mouse at Incest (November)
-Experience: The best experience of 2009 and 2010 was to be doing the Girlcore radio show at Ministry of Sound every week. Learned a lot and got into radio shows, will love to have another one in the new year but this time monthly!

Man Recordings don daa daa, Daniel Haaksman, returns with a remix edition of his „Hands Up“ EP which was released in July to much DJ and radio acclaim. In the remix EP, „Hands Up“ feat. Mozambiquan female MC crew Seguindo Sonhos gets a quintruple, trans-global deluxe remix treatment, already played by DJs like Crookers, Brodinski, Fake Blood, Feadz, Toddla T and many others.

The remix EP kicks off with Jan Driver of Boys Noize Records fame, who slams Haaksman´s original track onto the floor of Panoramabar Berlin with a wall of sound-compression that would crush any concrete. Paris´new wonderkid, French Fries, brings „Hands Up“ into low-end territories with his fantastic Grime meets Hyphy rework. Emynd from Philadelphia delivers a classic, in your face Bmore remix that certainly will bring many dancefloors to the boil. The king of Monterrey Elektro Tribal Guarrachero, at just 17 years old (!) Erick Rincon, created the genre specific, shuffley Tribal Guarrachero rework, which brings „Hands Up“ into sped up Cumbia-Techno realms. And finally, Beware + Motorpitch from Vienna present a classy tropical house rework that brings Haaksman´s original track back to the Euro dancefloors. „Hands Up“ around the world!!

Bonus remixes on this EP are the legendary Bert On Beats rework of „Kid Conga“ feat. MC Miltinho – which won the Man Recordings remix contest in 2009. Plus the slammin´ reinterpretation of „Purr Na Na“ by French Electro whizkids Beataucue, which re-assembles one of the highlight tracks of the „Valeu – Celebrating 5 Years Of Man Recordings“ compilation.
