Our homies So Shifty from Hamburg are currently putting the finishing touches to their upcoming EP on Man Recordings, scheduled for a July release. In between, they put together this amazing Salsa mixtape which contains many Kenny Fiesta edits, which allow perfectly to blend the usually tempo changing original Salsa tracks.

WILDLIFE! who first gained public attention for his unanimously praised productions for Jamaican bad gal Terry Lynn, and then continued making waves with global bass bubblers “Jumbie”, “Metazoa” and his dancehall-soaked “Buckup EP”, readies his first outing for Man Recordings.

The Swiss badboy teams up with Buraka Som Sistema’s J-Wow, with Toddla T and with Mr. Daniel Haaksman himself to deliver a bass fueled 4-tracker, respectfully paying hommage to a variety of genres they’re drawing inspiration and influence from.

On “DNO” WILDLIFE! & J-Wow deliver slowed down kuduroesque rhythm patterns paired with heavy sub-bass action , while the Toddla T collabo “Hear Dat” swings between grimey dancehall and post-apocalyptic soca madness. On “Paragon” WILDLIFE! and Haaksman take things up to 150 bpm, clashing a Juke/Footwork influenced percussion section with chopped-up vocal bits and genre-defying electronica weirdness. WILDLIFE! rounds things up, with dub influenced half-time smasher “Clappaz”.

I´m in Delhi right now, it´s the last day of a small Indian tour I did with “India Goes 3D”, an Indo-German Music Conference and Festival, as part of the Year of Germany in India 2012. Supported by the Goethe-Institut, the tour brought a delegation of artists and experts from Cologne, Berlin and Hamburg to India. Despite the amazing Indian food I had every day, I had the chance to see a few clubs, played at a progressive house trance festival which was headlined by Ferry Corsten (the Dutch trance “visionary”) and hung out with Delhi techno DJs BLOT, and Munbir from the highly recommendable Wild City Blog. The electronic music scene in India is still in its infant shoes, however, a small, well connected club and DJ scene has developed. Slowly, the styles in clubs and in people´s DJ selections are diversing and it´s not all about the 4/4 rule.

NUCLEYA

Nucleya from Delhi (spelled “Nuclear”) is one of the current Indian innovators that look beyond the usual groove formats. The DJ and producer uses elements of both Indian traditional music (mainly from South India) as well as dubstep and Moombathon. He remixed Tigerstyle lately and is about to drop his first official EP this summer.
