techno-rumba

Techno Rumba is here indeed, and it’s very funky. Here’s a mix to promote techno rumba by Chief Boima via dutty artz.
Interesting to see Mano Negra included in the mix, who of course were playing idiosyncratic whacked out rhumba over a decade ago and surely deserve a revival.

The Sounds of VTech / DJ Nuts – Arthur Verocai Mix

Arthur Verocai has composed and arranged for such giants as Jorge Ben, Gal Costa and Leny Andrade. But hiphop heads know him for his often sampled (see Ludacriss, MF Doom and Lil Brother) self titled solo album. Considered the holy grail of Brazilian crate digging, i.e. nigh on impossible to find in Brazil itself, “Arthur Verocai” (Continental, 1972) is a great mixture of Tropicalia, jazz funk and soul. You can find it on the sharity blogs with a quick poke around.
Rightly named THE expert on Verocai, DJ Nuts was comissioned to put together this mix of arrangements and compositions by the great man who was recently paid homage to in the Timeless series of concerts. Stretch out in your hammock, because this is classy stuff indeed.

DJ Marky Mix

Great mix by DJ Marky over at tranquera.org. Not less than a decade ago Marky was the biggest  DJ and electronic music export that came out of Brazil, however, in Brazil itself things cooled off for him a bit when other genres  became more fashionable, not least house music – groan. In fact in the first raves I worked in when I arrived in Brazil at the fag end of the nineties, the line-ups were surprisingly diverse, with techno djs being followed by drum and bass djs and so on. Marky always played a great set, really energising the crowd.

We can hear in this mix that he’s still on form and he takes in a variety of genres and also includes the ubiquitious “Hyph mngo” as well as some deep housey thangs (see track list below). In the interview he does to accompany the mix he explains that he now regulary plays with the dubstep crowd.

Man FM 003 – Schlachthofbronx

Man FM is the Man Recordings podcast radio that gives you access to exclusive first listens to all the new Man Recordings releases, Interviews with all our Artists, DJ mixes by special guests plus brand new tracks and classics that inspire us. Hosted by Tim Turbo.

We got a slight change of plan from the advertised program for today’s third issue of Man FM. Isa GT will unfortunately be in the next issue, representin’ her new release on Man Rec, but I found a more than just suitable alternative: Bene of the infamous Schlachthofbronx tells us what’s happening at the Munich bassy site of life and answers some questions that never came up before in a Schlachthofbronx interview. He also gave me a handfull of brandnew, not even got a name yet, exclusive tunes we will listen to. And as always I got my pockets brimfull with new Ghetto bass beats and tunes that inspire us! See the comments for the tracklist.

Enjoy the show!
