Soul Spectrum blog have posted this wonderful mix of Brazilian music dedicated to the “beautiful game”. Brazil’s performance at the world cup this year was, as many people much more qualified than me have said, mediocre, but with some magical moments nonetheless. But what other country has music and football so intrinsically intertwined, especially if I think of England’s shockingly awful crimes against the football song. André Paste is from Vitória, in Espírito Santo. He is apparently only 17 years old and is already being heralded as the new “Joãozinho Brasil”, i.e. the mini-João Brasil. He does, however, demonstrate here that he has a deft hand at ye-olde mash-up and follows the tried and trusted route of batidão with pop samples aplenty. Calling him “o Mallu Magalhães dos mashups” (Rolling Stone…of course) does seem pretty meaningless, but this short mix is fast, furious and fun!
