There’s also Britney Spears with “Bonde das Prostitutas”, but of course Britney has been mashed with baile funk before by those wags Bonde James Bonde of which I give to you below and let you decide which is the superior version.

This has certainly been the year that the Chicago Juke/Footwork sound has come to the fore, I’m not a huge fan, but being over forty I firmly believe it is not aimed at people like myself, in fact I think its primary intent is too annoy the hell out of anyone over 25. The pure repetition of Juke does lend it a minimalist charm and it does have functionality, as all the videos on youtube demonstrate. However, this is a great piece of Juke appropriation by Traxman, using that hoary old monster “The End”by the doors.  (via davequam.wordpress.com)

Soul Spectrum blog have posted this wonderful mix of Brazilian music dedicated to the “beautiful game”. Brazil’s performance at the world cup this year was, as many people much more qualified than me have said, mediocre, but with some magical moments nonetheless. André Paste is from Vitória, in Espírito Santo. He is apparently only 17 years old and is already being heralded as the new “Joãozinho Brasil”, i.e. the mini-João Brasil. He does, however, demonstrate here that he has a deft hand at ye-olde mash-up and follows the tried and trusted route of batidão with pop samples aplenty. Calling him “o Mallu Magalhães dos mashups” (Rolling Stone…of course) does seem pretty meaningless, but this short mix is fast, furious and fun!
