If you ever wondered who inspired Pharell Williams to wear a giant Canadian ranger hat – here´s the answer: It´s an homage to the sartorial style in the 1982 hip-hop video “Buffalo Girls” by Malcolm McLaren and the World’s Famous Supreme Team. A year ago, Daniel Haaksman made a mix celebrating the album on which “Buffalo Gals” appeared, the “Duck Rock” album. Originally released on a limited edition analogue tape (which has sold out in the Man Rec online store), Daniel´s mix on Malcolm McLaren´s seminal – and highly underrated – 1980s album is now finally released digitally. 2 PEKES - DZC EP

Portugal´s Dizonha Crew (aka DZC Deejays) is just unstoppable. First, they helped to define the sound of zouk bass with their “Tarraxo na Parede” track in 2012, then they were banging out monthly insane kuduro and tarraxo mash ups, and now some members of the crew – such as 2 Pekes – go solo and the quality bar gets raised even higher. Check out his “DZC EP” for the “This Is Kuduro” label and get all tracks as free downloads. Perfect DJ food!

KING DOUDOU "DANAO"

Back in the 90s, Suriname and Dutch Antilles immigrants in The Netherlands invented one of the must fun styles of all time, Dutch bubbling. DJs such as Moortje, Chuckie or Naffie were playing dancehall tracks at double tempo, using modified turntables, most of those tracks revolving around the holy trinity of dembow riddims : Bam Bam / Poco Man Jam/ Fever Pitch) . It resulted in a highly danceable were dancers can boggle at high speed listening to a chipmunk version of they’re favorite deejays. This style in modern music is really underrated, it gave born to Dutch house, dirty dutch and still resonates in nowadays tropical bass scene.
Now King Doudou released an edit of DJ Moortje’s seminal “Donna”, one of the first bubbling tracks by the inventor of the genre, using the 1994 song Donna by Singing Sweet and playing with it like Antilles style. You can telecharge it from below.
