Musica da Massa!

musica-da-massa

Those hard working people at sounds and colours dot com have put together another compilation, this time music from the north eastern state of Pernambuco. A culturally rich and musically diverse Brazilian state if ever there was one!

Go to the link here for a run down of the artists featured. It’s a great list, with some familiar names and some completely new for me. I’m listening to it at the moment and I recommend as much as their excellent Sao Paulo compilation which we have linked to here previously. There’s a wide variety here from out and out Brazilian rocker to more traditional fare.

Nossa Cara! New Sounds of São Paulo

Over at Sounds and Colours dot com they are offering up a free compilation of new sounds from São Paulo, called exactly that.  It’s well worth a download as it offers a nice overview of the current SP indie-ish scene. You have folky bossa nova, warped MPB and some nice experimental pieces and all manner inbetween. The blurb from the site goes like this:

Nossa, Cara! New Sounds of São Paulo in partnership with Brasil Music Exchange features a wide variety of music being made in São Paulo today. M. Takara 3, Psilosamples and Guizado represent some of the exciting electronic music coming out of the city. Chankas and Bodes e Elefantes make music which has a fearless approach to sonic exploration. The sounds of north-eastern Brazil are represented by Iara Rennó, Juçara Marçal e Kiko Dinucci and Metá-Metá (featuring Juçara and Kiko with added Thiago França). R. Brandao and Lurdez da Luz show the way forward for São Paulo hip-hop. They are joined by Tulipa, Bruno Morais and Lulina, who continue the MPB tradition in delightfully absurd ways, Karina Buhr, Juliana R and Bárbara Eugênia who bring a number of new ideas to the Brazilian cantora tradition, and Rafael Castro, who confounds with each new slice of dexterous folk or rock he puts to tape.

O Violão

o-violao

Home to major pop culture aggregating blogs Trabalho Sujo and Urbe amongst others, O Esquema.com.br  is releasing the free download of the compilation O Violão. Previous releases by O esquema include João Brasil’s big forbidden dance, so I think it’s worth your clicks.

The compilation started out as a summer DJ remix compilation but then summer came and went and the idea of Dj mixes didn’t really gel, so what they did instead was to ask artist friends and comrades to supply acoustic versions of their own tracks and thus create a more cohesive collection with an autumnal feel.

Thus what we have here is a fine collection of names from the current Brazilian indie-mpb sei la que scene; friend of Man Recs, João Brasil, Céu, Kassin (from Moreno+2), Wado, Lucas Santtana, Curumin and so on. As I said before well worth your time.
