Norient, the best German speaking blog on global music from Berne in Switzerland recently released a highly recommendable, new book titled “Seismographic Sounds – Visions Of A New World”. From Punk in Bolivia and Indonesia, Electronic Music in Egypt, Underground Pop from South Africa and Nigeria, Rap in Pakistan, Serbia, Chile and Ghana, Noise Music from Israel, Seapunk and Vaporwave from the US, Post Digital Pop from the UK,
“Seismographic Sounds” is full of short essays, statements and reflections on current music making from all over the world. The book offers views on how channels such as Soundcloud, YouTube and Twitter have radically transformed the distribution of music from areas which formerly were considered “The Periphery”. The book highlights contemporary global artistic positions and discusses their potential and limits with journalists, bloggers, artists and scholars from different places and cultures of knowledge.

The book has now morphed also into an exhibition which further introduces people behind the scenes in experimental audio podcasts and videos. The exhibition counters pessimistic views that globalisation and digitalisation has led to cultural uniformity and the destruction of the world’s musical heritage. A view point which we at Man Recordings share and have advocated since 2005.

Flip through the book in the video below, and make sure to check out the Seismographic Sounds exhibition, currently at ZKM in Karlsruhe, Germany or in Berlin in January 2016.
