NAT + ZUZUKA

Finally: Here´s the result from our Funk Mundial remix contest. We received more than 70 entries in our so it took us a while to work through all the tracks from A-Z. In the end we had to make hard decisions, and we even had to extend the final winning selection to four as we simply couldnt exclude any of the last four entries.

The winners are:

João Brasil, Rio De Janeiro, Brasil “Soca Ali Baba – João Brasil Tecno Brega Mix”
Brabe, Amsterdam, Holland “Soca Ali Baba – Brabe Remix”
Vengeance, Australia, “Soca Ali Baba – Vengeance Remix”
Tim Turbo, Berlin, Germany “Tim Turbo Sonnenbank Lazer Remix”

Our winners will receive T-Shirts, Vinyls and a digital release of their remix on Man Rec this summer. We´ll keep you posted about the release date. Thanks again to all who provided their versions!

FUNK MUNDIAL VIENNA

funk-mundial-vienna

The prettiest girls of Vienna came down last Saturday to fiercly shake booty at Café Leopold in the Museumsquartier. Special guest Seiji played new remixes and his current UK funky favourites, while Joyce Muniz spanked the crowd hard with some serious Brasilian macho beats, topped with “Bambolero” from Gypsy Kings. DJ Beware shone brightly with seamless mixing everything from early 90s bogle to the latest Afro rave tunes. I dropped tracks from my new EP and was amazed to see people singing along “Subiu, Desceu” by Feadz which has become a radio hit on national radio in Austria. Big Up Vienna, you showed some big love for us again. A pity though the night had to end already at four though the club was still rammed. But we´ll be back soon!!

MAN RECORDINGS INSPIRATION SERIES #16 : DELIVERANCE

“Deliverance”, the story of four city men embarking on a rafting tour in the U.S. South and suddenly getting hunted by rednecks, is one of the best movies that New Hollywood produced and one of my favourite flicks. The most memorable scene is the opening scene, where one of the city gents clashes with one of the locals. My old mate Tim “Love” Lee used “Dueling Banjos” to open his DJ sets – creating blank confusion on all dancefloors. Make sure to grab a copy of the soundtrack of “Deliverance”, it´s full of great banjo and honky tonk music, perfect for mixtape interludes or dancefloor irritation. Even Beastie Boys used a bit out of the “Deliverance” soundtrack on “Pauls Boutique” – it´s the country track before “Looking Down The Barrel Of A Gun”. Yehaa!
